Comet C/2009 P (Garradd) is another beautiful comet that appeared (visually) in mid-2011, and passed by many deep space objects including M15 (Aug. 2), M71 (Aug 26-27), 'the coathanger' cluster (Sept 2-3), and M92 (Feb 2-4, 2012). The comet has been slowly incresing in brightness, and is expected to peak in mid-to-late February (2012). The image was taken from ASLC's 'Upham' dark sky site on the evening of September 2, 2011. Clouds limited the available imaging time, although transparency was good between clouds.. Clicking the above image will bring up a higher resolution, higher quality image. |

Images converted to tifs with Photoshop CS5, then hand aligned. Two stacks of 8 images each were prepared. Each stack was flattened, they layered atop each other using a 'darken' layer setting. Finally a single sub was positioned on top using a lighten layer setting. | |
